2023

Another year full of changes, fortunately mostly positive ones. Right away in January we are building on our great experience with Spain in December and heading to Valencia to warm up a bit. I just can't resist cheap flights for too long :) We won't be celebrating Valentine's Day, but I'll tell Pepa one little surprise - there will be one more of us in autumn. If I ignore the nausea in the early months, I didn't even know how I got through the pregnancy. I was mainly occupied with Nina, but also with work and fitness + planning other trips. After all, it was clear that we were definitely not going to sit on our asses until the birth.

Nuremberg? Anytime (even with children)

We love Nuremberg, it's such an ideal city where you can go for a day, two days or even a long weekend. We Pilseners are always attracted by its easy accessibility, where you can spend just two hours driving along the motorway. Now what's the point of being here in the first place? Nuremberg is especially famous for its Advent markets, scented with mulled wine and typical gingerbread (lebkuchen), which I personally absolutely love. If you haven't visited the Christmas markets yet, I recommend you do so this year :) Moreover, this activity can be nicely combined with a tour of the historical centre, where there is definitely something to see.

12 trips from Amman

In the previous article you had a chance to study the complete information about visiting the rock city of Petra, now I would like to focus on other places in Jordan, which may not be as brutally famous as one of the seven wonders of the world, but still worth attention.

How to enjoy visiting Petra

Quite frankly: I don't know anyone who has gone to Jordan and not visited the notorious rock city of Petra on this occasion. I really don't. I even think that Petra is, on the contrary, one of the main reasons to travel to this country. It is, after all, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has even become one of the modern wonders of the world, just like Chichen Itza, Machu Picchu, the Colosseum, the Great Wall of China, the Statue of Christ in Rio and the Taj Mahal. And as it is the case with these eco-tourist spots, you may feel a bit cramped... but you don't have to, just like us!

Alpe di Siusi & Adolf Munkel trail

We don't often go back to the same places, but with the Dolomites it was almost inevitable to return after the first visit, see the articles My Top Places in the Dolomites or How to get to Seceda easily. Come to think of it, I don't know anyone who leaves these impressive peaks disappointed, not really. This year, for the first time, our 2.5 year old Kobliha is tasting the Dolomites and thanks to the local readiness for little adventurers - read playgrounds at every mountain hut - we already know for sure that we have not been here for the last time. Plus, the places I'd like to visit here just keep adding up. So in short, watch out, it's just addictive here :)

6 tips for trips in the Polish Giant Mountains

Almost everyone (every Czech) has visited the Krkonoše Mountains (Giant Mountains) at least once in their life, so we decided to travel a few kilometres beyond the border and make a trip to the Polish side. The choice fell on the month of June to avoid overcrowding during the holidays, which turned out to be a good idea, because just comparing weekdays vs. weekends it was really an incredible difference.

Isle of Skye: practical info + TOP trips

I think that after the previous two articles about Scotland - 8 days wandering Scotland and Our tour of Scotland day by day, you have at least a small idea of what you can expect here. The Isle of Skye is the largest and most northerly of the Inner Hebrides archipelago and is considered a kind of Scottish jewel, where you'll find even more beautiful and wilder nature than in the mainland Highlands. Personally, I've had the Isle of Skye on my dream destination list for several years and now I can finally confirm that it's definitely worth a visit. Whether you're a seasoned hillwalker, a casual walker who prefers to stop at viewpoints, or a lover of sights and history, you'll find something to do here anyway.

Our day-by-day tour of Scotland

In my first article, 8 Days in Scotland, I shared practical tips on flights, accommodation, car hire and more, as well as our complete, if somewhat rough, itinerary. Today I'll try to expand it "a bit" with specific places we stopped and what we (dis)liked, all accompanied by lots of photos of course, so be prepared for a slightly longer read :)

8 days wandering around Scotland

We were supposed to spend the first half of May on a roadtrip in Colombia, but it didn't happen... Three weeks before our departure Pepa came back from soccer with a sprained ankle - ok, it's pretty bad, I've adjusted the itinerary a bit, but we'll go anyway. But two days before the flight was to leave, an email arrived about a cancelled flight, which shook our determination a bit more. The offered replacements don't suit us, so instead of packing our bags we decide to cancel the whole Colombian trip. It should be noted that I really with a very heavy heart... well, in short, I normally screamed it. Anyone who has spent XXX hours arranging a major trip might understand this...

Jordan: practical info + itinerary

Jordan has been on my travel wish list for several years, but who didn't share my enthusiasm so much was Pepa... Donut didn't comment. I admit, I did a bit of a con: I armed myself with bulletproof arguments about the beauty and especially the safety of this country, and bought the tickets as a Christmas present. And then it was just a matter of applying the phrase "don't look a gift horse in the mouth", right. Girls, but between you and me, the one that works the most is, "Don't worry, honey, I picked the date before your football season, I'll get everything done, you just wrap up." :)

3 TOP trips in Tyrol

Spontaneous ideas are often the best, like this trip to Austria. During the last week of October it was the last chance to climb some hills this year. Only... we only had three nights available, so it wasn't for any big jumping/holidaying. However, we did manage to do something, let's do it.

Valencia: a city you'll love

After visiting Seville / Cordoba in December, I had a strong urge to visit Spain again during the winter. And the opportunity came very soon... or he who seeks, finds :) I can tell you straight away that all my expectations were met by Valencia without any problems. We all had a wonderful time here: us mainly with the food, wine, sights and walks, Nina with the sand on the beaches and all kinds of slides and swings that are located almost everywhere in the city. This not-so-common Spanish destination, for example, compared to the brutally touristy Barcelona, is simply a win for all generations, even for families with children!

What to do in Seville: 10 tips + trip to Córdoba

The main goal of this trip was to get away before Christmas to somewhere warm, at least somewhere where the temperatures don't stay around zero, there is no snow, or darkness for most of the day. But we're pretty overloaded with those classic European weekend getaways, so I started looking for lesser known places and I have to say this was a masterpiece. Seville, the capital of Andalusia, definitely has a lot to offer - from historic buildings listed by UNESCO, to walks in landscaped parks, shopping and most importantly, tasting all sorts of things because Spanish cuisine is simply yum!
