2024

prosince 31, 2024

The year 2024 was generally a pretty big wilderness. Because I finally fully understood the phrase that had been driving me crazy for 3 years - "one child, no child" :) It's become clear to me that only parents of more than one kid will understand this, however, I'm very careful now with saying this phrase so I don't piss off others. So how did it go? With the arrival of Jonah, we had a couple of months to ourselves to kind of get everyone settled in. There was a little bit of initial sibling jealousy to contend with, balancing daily routines, work commitments and Nina's nursery, so we preferred not to plan any major events in the winter. Even so, it made for some great long weekends at least here in the Czech Republic, e.g. around Pribram.

On the other hand, Jony's first year with us was not affected by coronavirus like Donut's, so there was nothing to wait for. We are going full pack abroad for the first time in April to Sardinia, where we are testing whether we can continue our travel style ala every night in a different place. Doughnut has been tuned in to this for a long time and the moves are absolutely no problem for her, luckily Jony shows no signs of stress after a week on the island, so we are planning ahead...

Unfortunately, in the case of May Bologna, the planning remained... For the first time ever, we have to cancel flights and accommodation due to illness, as Nina brought whooping cough from kindergarten, a super thing. Due to complications, with tonsillitis on top of it, we ended up being out of action for a whole month and another vacation took its toll - a week at a cottage in the Giant Mountains.

We will finally recover our mood at the end of June and the beginning of July, when we will head to our favourite Austria, this time to Schladming + for the first time we will also try Slovenia. Sunshine, hills... yeah it was literally a balm for the failed spring. In September we're going to take an even longer break with Rügen as our primary destination, but we'll also manage a couple of awesome days in Berlin, which was a really pleasant surprise.

I'm buying tickets to Albania for October, where we just marvel at the diversity of this beautiful country. I would love to return here, especially for the mountain areas, as a week to explore proved very very little. Of course, I guess I'll have to wait for my partners to grow up a bit :) In November, we'll fly to Gdansk, Poland, for a long weekend, where we end every day totally frozen and realize that winter is really here.

So now all that's left to do is to collect some sunshine for the supply, and the choice falls on Spain. Even though we have a flight to Barcelona, we end up skipping the city itself (we've been there before) and I'm thinking of an alternative program. In the end, it turned out to be a divine week full of hikes, walks, playgrounds, medieval villages and lots more... for us, an ideal Advent time.

And if you're wondering what I'm planning for 2025, I honestly have no idea yet. Or rather, I'm full of plans, but no concrete outlines yet. At the moment I'm mainly waiting because of airfares, which seem to have gone up a lot in the last few weeks, so we'll see where it goes :)
